History Bits From Fox Valley

Schmaltz House #70 4th Street

In 1940 Peter Schmaltz married Pearl Chisholm. In the early days of their marriage the young couple lived in the farm home of Peter (his parents were Peter and Margaret Schmaltz). In order for the newlyweds to have a place of their own, Peter Schmaltz Senior had a granary converted to a small dwelling. In 1946 this renovated granary was moved to Fox Valley and two more rooms were added. This little house has been the home to many individuals and families over the years and is still in use today. Renovated once more in 2008 it is now a guest house for the family and friends of Alexis (Schmaltz) and Bob Gardiner.
